According to Public relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, Morteza Sheikhzadeh announced this news, and said: Engineer Amri Kazemi, director of Qeshm Global Geopark, as the only Iranian present at the UNESCO World Geoparks Official Network Evaluator Team, has signed this partnership and Sister city(Town twinning).
He added that the authorities of the two Global Geoparks of Qeshm and Dunhuang, emphasized on joint projects and bilateral cooperation in improving the quality of geoparks and exchanging geotourists.
Deputy of Cultural, Social, and Tourism of Qeshm Free Zone Organization Referring to the announcement of readiness by the officials of Dunhuang Global Geopark for visiting Qeshm in early New Year and acquaintance with Qeshm Global Geopark experiences, continued: According to Qeshm Global Geopark Director, During of this visit, Governor of Dunhuang noted the strong political and economic ties between the two countries and the many similarities of the two geoparks, stated his readiness to host Qeshm Free Zone officials in Dunhuang Geopark, and he expressed his hope that the two regions would be able work together in different areas.
According to Sheikh Zadeh, Qeshm Global Geopark and Dunhuang Global Geopark have many similarities in different geological and natural field, as well as capacities of attraction and development of tourism, and with signing of this sisterhood agreement, knowledge transfer, experience and expertise between these two geoparks is provided.
He noted that with the sisterhood of these two geoparks, we intend to provide a purposeful and ever-present presence of tourists from China in Qeshm, and this memorandum will contribute to the comprehensive development of the two geoparks.
Dunhuang Geopark is located in the north of China, with an area of about 2,000 square kilometers, with a population of about 2,000. The main landscapes of this Global Geopark are erosion and desert, and in geology and extent, it is very similar to Qeshm Global Geopark.
